Professor takes lead role in nursing network

International Collaboration for Health Nursing Research (ICCHNR) will appoint new Executive Members from 1st January 2019 and Nursing Studies Pam Smith is thrilled to take on the mantle of ICCHNR President.

Professor Pam Smith has been appointed as the President of the International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research (ICCHNR).

In her new role, which begins in January 2019, she plans to fulfil ICCHNR’s vision to promote community nursing globally through a programme of international conferences, symposia, fellowships and networks.

Through these activities, she aims to build research, educational and clinical capacity.

The role of Co-Convener will be taken up by Prof Gina Marie Awoko Higginbottom MBE. She is is The Mary Seacole Professor of Ethnicity and Community Health at the University of Nottingham.

Inspiring nursing communities

The ICCHNR is an international collaboration of community nursing researchers.

Launched in 1995, it aims to demonstrate the value of community health care nursing research for improving the quality of health care and advance and share knowledge of community health care nursing practice through research.

It is also committed to supporting community nursing in developing countries, through its international network of nurse researchers, international conferences and fund raising activities.

Renowned expert

Professor Smith is a Professorial Fellow and former Head of Nursing in the School of Health in Social Science at the University.

She has worked as a nurse and teacher in Tanzania, Mozambique and Britain and as a nurse researcher in Britain, Malawi, Nepal and the USA.

Her research is committed to global public health, international development in lower and middle income countries, health care workforce and migration, health care professional education and leadership, emotions in care and extreme old age.

She received an MBE for services to nursing and nurse education in 2016.
